Billy Bragg, renowned singer-songwriter and political activist, is to receive The Trailblazer Award at next February’s inaugural UK Americana Awards. Bestowed by The Americana Music Association UK (AMA-UK) Board for his contribution to the genre, Billy will also perform on the night.

"I feel honoured to be a part of the first ever Americana Music Association UK Awards night and privileged to be recognised by them with the Trailblazer Award - It’s great to be acknowledged by the AMA-UK community in this way" Billy Bragg

The Awards will showcase leading lights of the UK Americana music scene, as many of the Award nominees take to the stage: Danny & The Champions of The World, topping the nominations with four nods including Paul Lush's Instrumentalist nomination; The Dreaming Spires, led by brothers Robin and Joe Bennett and recently seen on BBC TV’s Andrew Marr show; half-Welsh, half-Mississippian duo Lewis & Leigh, described by Rolling Stone as “a blend of Nashville country and British countryside” and award-winning TV soundtrack writer Emily Barker, who has garnered plaudits for both her solo work and that with her band The Red Clay Halo.

Acclaimed US singer-songwriter Gretchen Peters, herself a nominee in three categories, will make a special appearance on the night.

More to be announced.

The nominations shortlist for the seven membership-voted Awards can be found below and winners will be revealed at the Awards show on Wednesday 3rd February 2016 at the iconic St. John at Hackney in East London, hosted by legendary broadcaster Bob Harris, with musical direction by award winning producer and musician Ethan Johns.
